Two dead in Kasubi Tombs shooting

Two people have been confirmed dead while five are nursing injuries at Mulago Hospital after they were shot by the military at Kasubi Tombs earlier today.

The soldiers opened fire after a crowd of people tried to block president Museveni's convoy from accessing the cultural site that burnt to ashes on Tuesday night.

Major Felix Kulaigye, the army spokesman confirmed the deaths to Daily Monitor and said investigations into the shooting have started. "The loss of the tombs was regrettable but the violence that resulted in the death of these two people was completely uncalled for and should have been avoided," Kulayigye told Daily Monitor.

The Buganda cabinet that convened an emergency meeting in the morning has declared seven days of mourning.

The main building that houses the mausoleums of four kings of Buganda was completely burned down.

Buganda subjects thronged the site in the morning to salvage what remained of the historical site that was set up in 1882.
